See the oldest city in the Netherlands on a self-guided tour. Trek your way to Deventer to see its medieval sights and stunning architecture. We all love a walk through nature, but a city walk is nice every now and then! The walk is about 5 km and takes about 45 minutes or so to trek, but there’s plenty to see and do along the way.

Some of the main highlights of the Deventer city walk are:

  • Brink Square: home to the weekly market (on Friday & Saturday mornings), the Brink Square is an iconic hot spot of the city. While the square is also known for its annual book market and Charles Dickens Festival, Brink Square is a great place to visit no matter what day you’re visiting Deventer. Check out nearby restaurants and fountain.
  • Lebuïnuskerk: the main church of the city, Lebuïnuskerk is a Gothic style church built in the 15th century. One of the highlights of Deventer’s beautiful architecture!
  • Museum de Waag: a history museum inside the former Weigh House, it’s worth stopping by just to see the outside of the museum. If you’ve got some extra time to spare, step inside to get the low-down on some local history. for local history details.

  • Complete the city walk on a Friday or Saturday morning, and you’ll discover the weekly market in the Brink Square.
  • Visit during a Dutch Heritage Day for open access to many of the museums and landmarks you’ll see along the walk.
