A whole museum dedicated to movies, the magic of film, and the art of motion picture? In one cool futuristic-looking spaceship no less!

A shiny white spaceship docked on the shores of the IJ harbour is the perfect place for a national museum dedicated to film. The Eye Filmmuseum a collection curated out of love, consisting of over 50,000 works of films and movies ranging from Hollywood blockbusters to cult classics and every genre in between. The Eye Filmmuseum is a multi-faceted museum, with spaces consisting of:

  • Four cinemas, an exhibition room, and a whole floor dedicated to educational activities, a shop, and a restaurant.
  • Including over 50,000 works of films (both national and international), the Eye Filmmuseum also has an archive with 2.5 petabytes of digital files, 82,000 film posters, hundreds of thousands of still photographs, almost 30,000 film books, and special paper archives including the Jean Desmet Collection.

Tips and Tricks

  • While the museum is located across the IJ river, you can take a free ferry from Amsterdam Centraal Station directly to the Eye Filmmuseum

Getting There:

  • By Car: when using GPS navigation, navigate towards Overhoeksplein 1, many navigation systems do not recognise the IJpromenade
  • By Ferry: Take the ferry in the direction of Buiksloterweg. The 24/7 ferry service is free and leaves every few minutes. The ferry ride takes approximately three minutes.
