Where urban planning and multiple countries showcase their pride and knowledge in horticulture, this is an open-air wonderland of innovative sustainability and fun ways to be green! Explore the colourful lush world of plants, vegetation, and flowers for greener cities.
Floriade Expo 2022 (aka “The International Horticultural Exhibition Floriade“) is where the world meets for a horticultural exhibition once every decade, hosted in the Netherlands. In its seventh edition, this year’s theme is “Growing Green Cities”. There are over 400 international and national creators putting on display their green innovations, their visions of future urban planning, and development in sustainable productions with plants and vegetables! It's a celebration of leading a healthier lifestyle, conscious living, and smarter energy supplies by immersing oneself in more greenery.
- For all of your senses: Talk about having a green thumb. Even quite literally, there are some pavilions where you can touch, smell, and taste what you see in the Floriade park. (Yep, some flowers at the expo are edible, so you can taste them!)
- A whole new world: Take a 850-metre-long cable across Floriade park to experience a cleaner, greener way of transportation (the views over the water are as cool as the low electrical energy consumption used to energize the ride!)
- Get inspired: learn how you can enrich your own home space to be more green, how to improve your garden, and contribute as a citizen to more sustainable cities!
- Connecting the world: Each participating country has its own pavilion that you can visit to see its culture, unique gardens, and stunning green architecture that it’s housed in. For example, China is hosted in a growing Chinese bamboo garden, focusing on the harmonious connection between nature and humans. Each country’s pavilion feels like a journey in itself!
- Greenhouse Funhouse: Check out this ultramodern greenhouse that is 1 hectare and 170 meters long filled with horticulture from various countries around the world, including South Korea, Ethiopia, Bolivia, and India.
- During the expo, there are all kinds of cultural activities and art events happening around. Be sure to check out Art Pavilion Flevoland, which is a blend of sustainable architecture and multimedia art created by Studio Ossidiana on the Weerwater lake.
