Once a transit camp used by Nazis, Camp Westerbork is now a museum and monument of history.

  • A piece of dark history lies in the Drenthe province. Hidden in the forests is the former Nazi transit camp of Westerbork. The nearby camp is open to tourists and free to visit. This camp makes you see the effects of World War II up close. Nearby is a museum all about the war and transit camp to give you the full picture of what happened here.
  • During WWII, over 100,000 people were deported from here and only 5,000 returned. The museum tells their tragic story aided by a multimedia exhibit, featuring a 1944 video filmed at the actual camp. There is a route suitable for children above the ages of 7.
  • Kamp Westerbork is one of the most historically significant transit camps in the Netherlands. Anne Frank, Dutch writer Etty Hillesum, and musician Hans Mossel were all held here, until they were transported to the concentration camp of Auschwitz. Parts of the transit camp still remain. Walk through this tragic place and see history for yourself.
