**This house used to belong to one of the most well known families of Utrecht. **
In this historical street that consists of brown and grey bricked buildings, this house with red shutters catches the eye immediately. Nowadays there are beautiful apartments in this Gothic-style house. It was built around 1467 and was the site of the family Zoudenbalch.
The Zoudenbalch family was one of the most prominent families in Utrecht at the time of the Middle Ages. They held all important positions in the city government, held several lordships nearby, and made significant contributions to Sticht's history (Prince-Bishopric of Utrecht).
As a part of Utrecht's high society (and the family that held onto its power and influence), they had more properties in the city of Utrecht, among which the one at Oudegracht, which is now known as City Castle Oudaen, where a brewery is located.
