This photography museum is located in two classic canal houses.
Opened in 1999, Huis of Marseille is the oldest photography museum in Amsterdam. It is located in two beautiful canal houses dating back to the 17th century. There are 14 exhibition spaces, a library, a bookshop and a garden(house).
The museum has a wide variety of exhibitions that change about four times a year. The collection consists of photos that are made by local as well as international photographers. Huis of Marseille focuses on how photography changes rapidly through the years (especially since everybody has access to it) but how photographers still stick to the artistic nature of it.
The combination of the beautiful photos and the impressive, classic building makes it a perfect experience. Admire the glorious house that retained many of the original features and walk through the garden that is like an oasis of peace in the middle of the historic city centre.
