This Protestant church in the city centre is the starting point for one of the most famous pilgrimages.
In the city centre of Utrecht, located on the St. Jacobsstraat stand the Protestant Jacobi Church. The church dates back to the 13th century. 300 years after it was built, a cannon was installed in the church tower, aimed at Vredenburg, where the Spaniards were under siege by the Dutch.
- In the late 16th century the church endured the Protestant reformation and it became a Protestant church. The Protestants removed all the wall decorations and altarpieces.
- Today there are still services held, but the church is also rented out for university events or other events such as weddings and concerts.
- The Jacobi Church is also the starting point of the Dutch pilgrims that go on their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella.
