An iconic landmark of Amersfoort! Koppelpoort is a beautiful gatehouse resting along the city’s canals.
Amersfoort has been around for a long time, you know. The city has some cute medieval sights dotted around. One of the best parts of its medieval architecture is Koppelpoort. Did you know that the beautiful gatehouse was originally built in the 14th century? Check out Koppelpoort to see the medieval history of Amersfoort right in front of you.
Photo spot: Koppelpoort is a popular sight to see. Every tourist who comes to Amersfoort should visit at least once. Even if you're more into non-touristy things, it’s worth dropping by to see this pretty gate. Check out the gate in the afternoon as you stroll along the canals - it’s the best time to take photos because the sun faces the gate. We love natural lighting!
Koppelpoort is always included in city walking tours of Amersfoort, so you’re not likely to miss it. If you do get a local guide, they’ll take you into Koppelpoort so you can see the old water wheel and mechanism that lowered the gate. Don’t go out of your way to see the inside, though! You really just want to come here to see the actual gate.
