This contemporary art gallery organises exhibitions, lectures and more.

In the trendy Witte de Withstraat the contemporary art gallery Kunstinstituut Melly is situated. The building used to be a school, but since 1990 housed the art institution that used to be named after the street it is located in ('Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art'). In 2020 the name was changed to 'Melly', as Witte de With was a naval admiral that played a big role in colonisation, and the institute wanted to distance itself from that.

'Melly' refers to an art piece called Melly Shum Hates Her Job which is displayed on the outside of the building, created by Canadian artist Ken Lum.

If you want to know all about what is happening in the international world of art today, this is the place to be! Besides exhibitions, Kunstinstituut Melly organises lectures, film screenings and other events, publishes books and has a diverse and interactive educational offer.

The museum is compact, so 1,5 hours might be enough for you to explore and admire the diverse art pieces.
