The highest waterfall in the Netherlands. Man-made but beautiful, Loenense waterval is a must-see when you’re walking through the forests of Loenen.

  • Once a hidden gem, Loenense waterval has gained popularity from wandering trekkers and photographers. A pretty 15m drop flowing in the ocean, the steps of Loenense waterval are a popular resting place along any forest walk. Wander in during the school holidays and you’re sure to see local families playing in the stream.
  • Loenense waterval is actually man-made and feels more like a nice rapid once you actually see it in person! Still, it sounds as pretty as any other waterfall and has its own unique charm.
  • One of the best treks to do here to get to Loenense Watervallen is the Vrijenberg Route. Beginner friendly, the walk takes you through the pine forest, farm De Groote Modderkolk, and the Hindu retreat centre of Sada Shiva Dham, plus the waterfall itself. The walk is just over 4 km long. See here for a map of the walk.
