You can enjoy this canal from many different places.

The Merwede Canal, 35 kilometres long, goes through the two provinces Utrecht and South Holland. With a lot of green on both sides, beautiful buildings and picturesque bridges, it is a nice place to go canoeing. You will see de Munt, an old stone factory, house boats and much more.

On the grass along the canal in front of the impressive Munt-building, many people like to enjoy the sun in summer. Many of them take a swim in the canal, which is officially not a legal place to swim, but the city is looking into making it legal, as it is so popular.

Furthermore there are many restaurants and cafes along the canal, such as Op Zuid, Marcus, De Klub, FICO, Buurten in de Fabriek or Soia.
