**Learn about the canal belt in Amsterdam that is part of UNESCO. **

Learn about one of the most important things and one of the major highlights in Amsterdam: the canals. To this day, it is the many hundreds of merchant houses and stately canal houses that give character and allure to the Amsterdam canal belt.

But how did the canals originate, and why are they still vital to the city today? How did the city grow from a fishing village to a metropolis? You will find out at the Museum of the Canals where you will go on a journey through 400 years of Amsterdam history.

The museum has a permanent exhibition as well as changing ones. It is located in a beautiful old merchant house dating back to the 17th century. In the house you will see rooms that represent different times and that are designed beautifully, with wonderful paintings, impressive chandeliers and more. Don’t forget to pay a visit to the garden!
