The youngest national park in The Netherlands and the biggest man-made nature park in the world! You have to see the 29.000 hectares to believe it.
The Dutch clearly have a thing for repurposing land. This national park is part of the biggest reclamation project in the world: draining Flevoland. You’re quite literally at the bottom of what used to be Zuiderzee! Since its opening in 2018, it’s become a local hotspot for all outdoor lovers.
Take a break from city life and breathe in the fresh air while being in the heart of this very new nature. In the national park, you can go on scenic walks along the swamp area, the Marker Wadden beaches, or through the forest. Hiking is definitely the most popular activity in the park, and you can find all the routes here. Look up! Chances are you’ll catch one of the many bird species flying around overhead. If speed is what you’re looking for, bring along a bike and take one of the cycling paths to discover hidden roads and paths in the park. Or switch from wheels to a sail, and cruise around the various marina spots.
There’s nothing new about the park’s kid-friendly activities! Bring the little ones along for a day out in the park, where they can observe animals like Heck cattle and Konik horses from the Oostvaarders Nature Experience, hunt for animal tracks, or answer puzzles and assignments in a backpacking nature walk!
