Looking for the NXT best thing to do in Amsterdam? A trip to the North part of the city brings you to one of Amsterdam’s newest museums that’s all about movement, light, and sound.
NXT recently opened its doors in August of 2020, after being in the works for three years. First of its kind! NXT is the first museum in all of the Netherlands to have a focus on new media art. The curators at NXT use technology and innovation to build a completely immersive, and futuristic world.
The future is what they’re focused on, and they have collaborations with artists, designers, technologists, and scientists to create the various installations. Get all those senses involved! They want guests to interact mentally, physically, and emotionally with the art and hopefully leave with a new perspective on the modern world of technology.
What is NXT? There are no paintings on the wall, no giant sculptures to examine. Instead you walk into eight large rooms, some which seem completely empty at first. But just wait. When the visuals start to play you’ll find yourself sucked into another world of moving images, shapes, and sounds.

I was blown away by the exhibition. Each room was unique from the last, and I feel like I got lost in a trance with all of the insane lights and moving images. My favorite room was the galaxy room full of mirrors--it really looked like we were in outer space!
