Locals love this beautiful, green park, in winter as well as in summer.

Located in the eastern part of the city, you will find a beautiful park called Oosterpark (‘Eastern Park’). With a pond in the middle, winding pathways and lots of grass it is the perfect place to relax. Amsterdammers love going here for runs, walks, picnics or for playing games. That’s why this is a popular spot especially in summer.

The park was designed in 1891 and features several monuments and sculptures, among which The National Monument of the Slavery and The Scream, dedicated to film director Theo van Gogh who was murdered in 2004 nearby the park.

There are a lot of birds in the park. You might even spot ring-necked parekeets, green birds that are originally from Africa and India, but ended up in the Netherlands years ago.
