Every Friday, Utrecht sells fresh and local produce in the heart of the city.

The smell of fresh bread fills the air as you wander the streets of Utrecht. Follow the lovely smell and chatter and you’ll soon find stalls lined up on the Vredenburgplein every Friday. Meet the locals and spend your euros on yummy organic food in Utrecht’s farmers market.

The Boerenmarkt is held every Friday come rain or shine in the Vredenburgplein. Just a quick walk from the main square of Vredenburg, Biologische boerenmarkt Utrecht is a nice surprise for anyone wandering the city.

  • While the Boerenmarkt isn’t the biggest in the region, it’s one of the best for sustainable products. The weekly farmers market is a must for any slow traveller visiting Utrecht. Buy fresh and seasonal produce straight from the local farms!
  • Most of the stalls at Utrecht’s organic farmers market are food; everything from cheese, bread, nuts, fruit, and sustainable fish, to mushrooms. Everything you need to make a fresh local dish can be found here. It’s a must for foodies.
  • Since Biologische boerenmarkt Utrecht is held in the city centre, you’re right in the middle of the shopping district. There are plenty of cafes, second-hand shops, and more all around you if you still have the shopping itch after checking out the market!
  • Still need more options? Check out the Vredenburg market; a bigger city market with a wide variety of stalls, the Vredenburg market is close by but also more popular. The Vredenburg market takes place on Friday, Wednesday and Saturday.
