Step into a painting. No, literally! Be transported to the dunes of Holland in this larger than life panoramic painting.

  • The arty spectacle you have to see to believe. Hendrik Willem Mesdag created the Netherland’s biggest panorama painting in 1881 with the help of his wife and fellow painters. He needed the extra help because this painting is huge! The massive seascape stands at an astounding 14 meters in height and 120 meters in circumference! Size isn’t the only thing impressive about it - the Panorama of Scheveningen is the oldest panorama in the world to be located in its original position. Real terrain is surrounding the viewing gallery, making you feel like you’ve been transported to the dunes!
  • Whilst Mesdag’s panorama is the main draw here, the museum also has the most complete collection of Hendrik Wellem in the whole world. As well as changing exhibitions. Kid friendly: If it’s a family day out you’re looking for, the museum offers a treasure hunt with the panorama, or your little ones can become a museum inspector!
  • High praise from Van Gogh! Did you know? Vincent Van Gogh was among the viewers on the panorama’s opening day, famously giving his approval in the quote, “The only thing that is wrong with the Panorama of Scheveningen is that there is nothing wrong..” If Van Gogh is a fan, you know it’s worth a visit.
