This red lighthouse has been looking over the Scheveningen beach for quite some time.
In the old days, a simple fire on the beach led fishermen safely to shore. But around 1805 the fire was replaced by a stone building with a lookout post and a brazier on top,the lighthouse as we know it today.
This red lighthouse has watched over Scheveningen for quite some time now: since 1875. It is 30 metres high, has 8 floors and 159 stairs. Unfortunately you can’t visit the lighthouse but it is a very aesthetically pleasing view!
