How does the largest interactive Instagram museum in Europe sound? Because at the Upside Down Amsterdam, everything is just that much more memorable and photo-worthy.

The Upside Down Amsterdam is a multi-room experience that combines a Willy Wonka aesthetic with the vibe of an amusement park in one museum. There are mindblowingly over 25+ rooms that you can walk through, each with its own unique sense of humour, design and installations.

What makes the Upside Down Amsterdam so inherently an iconic place in the capital is how playfully Dutch some of the designs are. One room contains a reimagined Amsterdam cityscape, with glittery purple canal houses and a wagon bike to pop on for photos.

There are absolutely no rules here - if you want to wear a costume or come as you are if you want to spend all day at the spaces, or dance it out as hard as you want in the Mondriaan room. The spaces in the Upside Down Amsterdam are designed with utmost attention to detail for your self-expression, and of course to capture that fun TikTok or Insta-story along the way.

Tips and Tricks

  • Traveling solo? There are attendants in each room that gladly would help take your photo for you!
  • Also some rooms and interactions have a self-taking photo camera set-up. All you have to do is scan a QR code and it'll take your photo for you! Perfect for groups too.
  • With the QR code, you can email yourself all of the photos you took in the exhibition with the self-taking photo camera for free. You'll receive them in HD at the end of the museum.
  • There's a ball pit room where you have to take your shoes off in order to jump in. To make the experience comfortable, wear socks or bring a pair!
