Become a chocolatier and learn about an ethical company that promotes slave free labor while chowing down on some incredible chocolate!
Amsterdam has a long lasting relationship with chocolate. Did you know? Back in the 1900’s the trading of cocoa took place at a commodity fair in the Beurs van Berlage. Even to this day, Amsterdam has the biggest harbor in Europe for cocoa trade! So basically it’s a chocolate lover’s paradise--one that Tony Chocolonely has brought to reality.
The origin story of Tony Chocolonely is slightly different from other chocolate companies, it involves a journalist and a court case. That’s right:chocolate for justice! Dutch journalist Teun van de Keuken was investigating the big chocolate corporations for their use of labor. He realized there was an overwhelming issue of slave labor being used for making chocolate. Teun tried to sue the companies in court, but was unsuccessful. His solution? Producing his own chocolate (under the English name Tony), and proving that it can be successful, delicious, and 100% slave free labor.
Tony’s Chocolonely has blown up all over the globe. Last year marked over 45 million chocolate bars sold! One thing is for sure--People can’t get enough of this chocolate. The more chocolate that people buy, the more money and effort can go into stopping slave labor in Africa. Going to Tony’s means never feeling guilty over buying sweets again.
Tony’s newest addition is the Tony’s Chocolonely Super Store, where you and your friends can learn about the company while taste testing their current bars from a giant vending machine!
-If you’re in search of even more of a sugar rush, head upstairs to the Tony Chocolonely cafe, where you can snack on cakes, milkshakes, and basically anything chocolate related.

The employees at Tony’s really elevated the overall experience. I got an in depth look at how Tony’s Chocolonely is trying to combat the issue of slave labor, all while getting to taste test the different chocolate bars! I couldn’t leave without buying a bar (or several)--the dark chocolate pretzel bar is definitely my favorite.
