Take a walk along the beach, climb to the tops of sand dunes, or cycle away in this massive nature reserve perfect for getting a breath of fresh sea breeze air.

  • Between Scheveningen and Kijkduin lies one of the largest nature reserves in The Hague! If you’re a nature lover, we guarantee you’ll like this place. What’s in the park? Mixed landscapes with green forests, sandy dunes, and even historic remains with bunker ruins from WW2. Did you know? The Germans used the dunes to create an extensive system of underground bunkers as part of the Atlantic Wall. So if you’re a major history buff, make sure to check out the Atlantic Wall Museum!
  • Animal crossings: The diversity of the landscape means there’s a variety of animals living at the reserve. Be on the lookout for critter friends such as foxes, lizards, and nightingales. If you spot one of the shaggy haired cows, don’t worry - you haven’t been transported to Scotland. Westduinpark brought over Scottish Highland cows to keep the area varied. Now the fluffy four-legged friends can be found grazing grass all throughout the reserve, and have become a beloved aspect of visiting. Dog friendly: Want to bring your own four-legged pal? Dogs are permitted in the reserve as long as they stay on a leash!
  • Hiking and cycling by the seaside: The reserve has multiple paths that range in length and difficulty, great for anyone wanting to go out and get active. Most cyclists follow the LF1 long-distance path that takes you parallel to the coast. Talk about scenic views!
