See the incredible architecture of Europe’s first skyscraper nestled in Rotterdam’s picturesque old harbour.

  • In Rotterdam’s Oudhaven, or Old Harbour, you’ll find the Witte Huis, the first high-rise building in Europe. At 43m high, it is tiny compared to today’s skyscraper but back in the day this was an amazing feat of engineering and design. Built in 1898, and now a national monument, the Witte Huis is a historic architectural gem in Rotterdam. It’s definitely worth popping by even for a quick look! Oudhaven is only a short walk from the city centre’s main attractions.
  • Drop by to find a unique place for drinks or a scenic location for dinner. There are loads of cafes and eateries dotted around the harbour. Take a seat at one of the many outdoor terraces for a good view of the surroundings. The Witte Huis itself has its own ‘grand café’. The vibe is somewhere between a fine-dining restaurant and a pub.
  • Expect more than one architectural spectacle on display here. Witte Huis. Check. The famous Cube Houses. Check. The big, red Willembsburg bridge in the background. Check. Along with all the old boats with their upright masts, these make Old Harbour a fun spot for photography. Check it out if you’re looking for interesting urban photo spots or a quintessentially Rotterdam Instagram post.
