Calling all foodies! Sample some of the Netherland’s best seafood. Dine on fresh mussels, all kinds of oysters and rare Oosterschelde lobsters.
Foodies and seafood lovers, this one’s for you. Zeeland is famous in the Netherlands and is known by seafoodies around the world for its provincial delicacies. If you’re looking to try some tasty, fresh Zeeland seafood, Yerseke is the place for you.
Wander along Havendijk Street and take your pick from one of the many restaurants and shops selling the unique and salty Zeeland flat oyster, the rare Oosterschelde lobster, mussels and more. Make sure your seafood of choice is available when you go and check out the seasons below.
See The Seafood
To be sure your seafood is the freshest of the fresh, why not take a little tour around one of the oyster farms. Oesterij is a casual, popular seafood restaurant and oyster farm. There you can experience the growing of crustaceans by the Dhooge family who have been at it since 1906.
After learning how the oyster farm works, head over to the tasting room or sit on the cozy terrace and enjoy views out over the oyster wells and Eastern Scheldt...oh and the oysters of course!
If you just can’t get enough, pop into the Oesterij shop and get some fresh oysters to go, perfect for a very indulgent snack or a fancy dinner party.

Seafood Festivities
There are a few festivals you should know about if you’re planning a trip to Yerseke. If you find yourself in the village on the third Saturday in August you can experience Mosseldag, or Mussel Day. If you’re visiting in September lookout for the oyster themed festivities that mark the beginning of Zeeland’s oyster season. The Oyster Festival usually runs for three days.
Getting There
We had a seafood lunch at the Oesterij on the patio overlooking the sea on a sunny day, beautiful - the speciality flat oysters are highly recommended! You can see the oyster farms while you walk through the restaurant. Reserve ahead of time.
