The Cultural History Museum is a separate faculty under the University of Oslo. The collections of the Cultural History Museum consist of almost one and a half million artifacts, collected over 200 years; oldsaker from Norway, the Mediterranean and Old Egypt, the coin cabinet and Norway's largest ethnographic collection. The collections form the basis of the museum's research, management and dissemination. A selection of visitors are exhibited in the Historical Museum and the Viking Ship. Research on culture in the past and present opens up new perspectives on the world heritage and contributes to increased cultural understanding. The museum and University of Oslo collaborate on developing better building frameworks for museum collections and exhibitions.
