The Municipal Museum of Chancay, was created on July 23, 1991, for this purpose it contacted the National Museum of Anthropology and History of Peru for support, which was expressed in the signing of the agreement of technical cooperation between the National Museum of Anthropology and the municipality of Chancay, on September 4, 1991, and the organization of an itinerant temporary exhibition that was inaugurated on December 9, 1991, with the Chancay Prehispanic Theme. At the beginning of the year 1992 an archaeologist took up the position of research and conservation, elaborating the project of institutional growth of the Chancay museum, in addition the own collection of the museum was constituted with the donations of some worthy Chancayanos. After several years without functioning, the management of Dr. Juan Alberto Álvarez Andrade, current mayor of the district of Chancay, signed an Inter-institutional agreement with the then INC, for the Registration and inventory of the museum collection, parallel to it. the infrastructure of the new palace and municipal museum is designed, inaugurating on December 7, 2012, having as themes: or Funerary tombs. o Chancay textiles. o Productive economic activities: Agriculture and fishing. o Architecture and landscaping. o Daily life of our ancestors. o The collapse of the Covadonga. o The Chancay religiosity o The present cultural manifestations.
