Discover the Vibrant Cultural Scene at Klub Żak in Gdańsk

Gdańsk, a city rich in history and culture, is home to numerous attractions that cater to all interests. One such gem is Klub Żak, one of the oldest cultural centers in Poland. Established in 1957 as the Klub Studentów Wybrzeża Żak (Coastal Student Club Żak), this vibrant venue has been a hub for artistic expression and entertainment for over six decades.

A Historical Legacy

Klub Żak traces its roots back to the year 1955 when the Dyskusyjny Klub Filmowy Studentów i Młodej Inteligencji (Discussion Film Club for Students and Young Intellectuals) was formed. In 1957, it found its permanent home in a 19th-century building on Wały Jagiellońskie Street, which now serves as the New City Hall of Gdańsk. The club was initially under the patronage of the Zrzeszenie Studentów Polskich (Association of Polish Students) and quickly became a gathering place for theater groups, artists, filmmakers, and musicians.

A Cultural Haven

Today, Klub Żak continues to be a thriving cultural institution, offering a diverse range of events and activities. The club's cinema, DKF Żak im. Zbyszka Cybulskiego, is renowned for its curated selection of contemporary and classic films. With its intimate setting and 148 seats, it provides an exceptional cinematic experience for film enthusiasts.

The Scena Teatralna Żak, a concert and theater hall, is another highlight of the club. With a capacity ranging from 200 to 700 people, it hosts a variety of performances, including theater shows from both Polish and international troupes. The venue also serves as a platform for workshops and lectures, allowing visitors to actively engage with the arts.
