The District Museum in Toruń is the oldest and largest cultural institution in the city. It was established in 1861 and now has six branches - the Nicolaus Copernicus House, the History Museum of Toruń (in the Esken House), the Toruń Gingerbread Museum, Tony Halek, Museum of Far East Art (in the Tenement House) and Old Town Hall, which is a gothic symbol of the city.

The Museum offers a very rich cultural offer - the most rare exhibits from faraway Asia, the masterpieces of Polish painting by such artists as Julian Falat, Jacek Malczewski and Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, unique memorabilia from the exotic trips of Tony Halik and Elisabeth Dzikowska, legendary Copernicus, unique archaeological finds, and finally Torun's famous gingerbreads and everything about gingerbread.

Every year, the Institute organizes spectacular exhibitions, Museum Nights, international competitions for children and young people, various workshops, lectures and meetings with famous people. In addition, he has a wide range of publications - publishes professional works, albums, catalogs and popular science books.
