Teatr im. Jan Kochanowski - has been working in Opole since January 1975. The building began in November 1965 at the then. Lenin (now Teatralny Square), in place of the former foundations of the Kulturhaus. The opening of the theater took place on January 23, 1975. In 1993, the puppet theater team was transformed into an independent Opole Theater of Puppeteers and Actors. Alojzy Smolki. Teatr im. Jan Kochanowski is the organizer of the annual Opole Theater Confrontations of Poland, hosting the best performances from all over the country, competing for the Grand Prix and a number of awards for the creators and actors. The formula of the festival has changed since 2015: it is now the finale of the all-year competition for the staging of the classic Polish drama "Klasyka Żywa". The theater has four stages: Large (560 seats, revolving and sunken), Small (193 seats, amphitheatrical audience), Bunker (formerly Stage on the ground floor, 80 seats) and the latest, Modeler (up to 150 seats, depending on the shape the performance).
