Amoreiras was an area of agricultural fields, turned residential neighbourhood in 1879. With the construction of the Amoreiras Shopping Center in 1895, the first one in Lisboa, the area gained increased popularity and is nowadays one of the preferred medium-high class zones of the city. Around the central mall there are luxury hotels, financial businesses and creative companies. There isn't much street commerce, instead you will find plenty of cafes, pastry shops, esplanades, offices and stores. It is a great area for some shopping or for a stroll. Besides the huge shopping center, check out the Amoreiras garden and the final destination of the Águas Livres aqueduct, in Mãe d'Água.
