Avenida da Liberdade

Avenida da Liberdade is a large avenue in the center of Lisboa, around which the historic neighbourhoods spread out. It extends from Marquês de Pombal square up north, to Praça dos Restauradores, leading to the Baixa. On either side of th central road, the sidewalks are made in traditional cobblestone pavement, with fountains, plants, small lakes, statues and several cafe-kiosks, all under the shade of large trees. In Avenida da Liberdade you can see some old and beautiful buildings still standing alongside more modern constructions, nowadays turned into hotels, luxury stores, banks and offices. But it is also a trendy place with lots of activity, and you can find several theaters, cinemas, great restaurants, chilled out esplanades and easy access to the entertaining areas of the city.
