The historic Graça neighbourhood sits on the highest of Lisbon's hills, close to the S. Jorge castle. It's one of the oldest, richest areas of the portuguese capital, inhabited by a very diversified population. It expanded without defined urban planning, leading to the coexistance of working-class towns, open squares, vistas, buildings that range from modest homes to historic churches, like the iconic Igreja da Graça. Graça's streets are full of cafes, pastry shops, restaurants, bars, public gardens and it's privileged location also provides for superb viewpoints of the surrounding urban landscape, of which the Miradouro da Graça is a must-see.
