Conceived by the architect Paulo David, MUDAS is a contemporary art museum, internationally awarded for its architecture and integration in the landscape, it hosts various exhibitions, musical shows, plays and conferences. The museum is located on a hill overlooking the village of Calheta, on the west side of the island of Madeira. The museum collection boasts the work several national artistes, like Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Rui Sanches, João Queiroz, Marta Telles, Pedro Cabrita Reis, Rui Chafes, Álvaro Lapa, among many others. MUDAS was made with the purpose of creating a pleasant ambience, providing a viewpoint to the sea and surrounding hillsides. The building also includes an auditorium, library, cafeteria, restaurant, a cultural entertainment area and a parking lot.
