Museu Nacional do Teatro e da Dança

The Museu Nacional do Teatro promotes, through its collections, the knowledge of the history and contemporary status of the entertainment and performance arts of dance and theater in Portugal. The museum is located in the Palácio Monteiro-Mor, a building from the XVIII century, and presents a collection that dates back to 1979 and has around 250 000 pieces. Among them, you can find costumes, stage props, stage sets and scenery, show posters and programs and a large arquive of photos. The museum regularly presents temporary exhibitions. There is also a specialized library, considered to be the largest of its kind in Portugal, with around 35 000 volumes, a cafetaria and restaurant area.
