Istra is a town and the administrative center of Istrinsky District in Moscow Region, Russia, located on the Istra River, 40 kilometers (25 mi) north-west of Moscow. Population: 35 thousand inhabitants. Square: 7 sq. km. Till 1930, the town was called Voskresensk, which means Resurrection.
