The Intercession Convent in Suzdal was founded in the 14th century. Though ages it was a place of exile for noble women; the most famous among them were Solomoniya Saburova, the first wife of Basil III, later canonized as St. Sophia from Suzdal, and Evdokiya Lopukhina, the first wife of Peter I. The convent complex was built in the 16th century and include the Intercession Cathedral decorated with white-stone carving, the Gate Church of Annunciation, Refectory and Church of Conception, and a tent bell tower.
