In the historical part of Sevnica, a town that lies on the left bank of the Sava River, there is a striking medieval castle on the hilltop.
The 13th-century Sevnica Castle is about 5 minutes walk from the charming old town. From the top of the hill, you can see the snaking shape of the Sava River as well as the rooftop houses that have been around for generations. It’s a great view of the surrounding Posavje region, where the mountains loom all around.
You can also go in and explore Sevnica Castle with a guided tour. It’s not so big in size but makes up for it in the many rooms to explore, each holding different eclectic collections from unique embroidery to frescoes. Underneath the castle is a Lutheran Cellar, and surrounding the castle park is the vineyards. If you want to try the wine that’s produced here with the fittingly Dracula-homage name “Castle Blood” wine, you can get a tasting in the Castle wine shop.
Sevnica Castle host a myriad of events throughout the year including puppet theatre for kids, night tours, and creative workshops.
