One of Ljubljana’s oldest bridges helps connect the medieval area city.

Cobbler’s Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that dates back to the 13th century, back when it was a wooden bridge, but it was revamped in the last few hundred years after the original was destroyed in a fire. Even though the original isn’t there anymore, the location has always been important in connecting Ljubljana on both sides of the river.

An interesting anecdote about the bridge is that it used to have a meat butcher on it back in the day! But it was smelling up the whole bridge that the Emperor at the time actually paid him to move his shop from off the bridge! After that, shoemakers took over the bridge giving it its name as Cobbler’s Bridge, or its frequently used nickname Shoemaker’s Bridge.
