Known for its salmon-pink color, the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation is one of Ljubljana’s oldest and most charming churches.
Located on Ljubljana’s famous Prešeren Squareyou , you’ll find this beautiful and unique church. The notable pink colour on the exterior of the church was actually originally red painted, to symbolize the Franciscan monastic order, but over the years it has faded to a beautiful salmon-pink. This church is sure to stand out! It’s not often you see a pink church.
The church is filled with Frescoes that were unfortunately cracked and ruined during the Ljubljana earthquake in 1895, but there are some new ones that were painted after the earthquake that are beautiful and worth checking out! Don’t miss the most famous part of this church, the monumental main altar built by the Italian sculptor Francesco Robba.
Around Christmas time, the church is decorated festively for the Ljubljana Festive Light Switch-On. If you’re lucky enough to be there during the season, make sure to walk by once it’s dark to see the stunning church lit-up for the holidays!
Don’t forget it closes for one hour every day, between 12:30-13:30
