Defensive walls built in the 7th century remain well preserved to this day.
Get the best panoramic views of this coastal city from its ancient town walls, built originally in the 7th century to defend the expanding city against enemies such as the Ottoman Empire. While some of the original walls are no longer standing, there is a big portion that wasn’t demolished and is still available to visit to this day.
While it is a bit of a walk to reach the top of the walls, it is a rewarding one for the stunning views you’ll get to see once you’ve made it up there. On a clear day, if you’re lucky enough, you’ll be able to not only see the best views of the Adriatic Sea and the old Venetian city of Piran, but you’ll catch a glimpse of the Italian Alps and the italian city of Trieste, across the Gulf of Trieste.
