Explore one of Slovenia’s natural wonders in these unique underground caves.

This underground adventure is a very popular attraction for those visiting Slovenia, with over 20 km of passages that you can explore. The deeper you go into the cave, the vaster the caverns are, and you end up feeling like you’re on another planet! It’s a great adventurous activity that can be visited easily from Ljubljana to catch a break from the city and explore some of the nature of the country.

Postojna caves is also well known for its biodiversity, specifically for being home to the olm, which is a blind, cave-dwelling amphibian that's home is located deep in the unique rock formations.

All aboard the Postojna Cave train! If you want to explore the cave even deeper, you can take a thrilling ride on the cave’s electric train which takes you through the tunnels that are closed off to pedestrians, allowing you to explore the cave further.

Tips and Tricks

  • Predjama Castle is super close by, so we recommend trying to see both in one day if you’re visiting as a day trip from Ljubljana.

  • 1 hour and 28 minutes by train or bus from Ljubljana, trains and buses leave frequently every day.
