For those driving through Slovenia, gorgeous sights are aplenty, but the Vršič Mountain Pass may be one of the most memorable drives yet.
At 1,611 metres, the Vršič Mountain Pass is the highest road pass in the eastern part of the Julian Alps. Starting from Kranjska Gora going to Trenta, this snaking road is a winding slow-paced drive. Each curve of the bend is a marvel of eclipsing trees and forests sprouting on the sides of the mountains, with peaks jutting out of the horizon.
There are a whopping 50 hairpin bends on the 24-kilometre Vršič Mountain Pass! To add to the adrenaline, the roads are really narrow so driving at the speed of 10 kilometres per hour is more of a requirement than a suggestion.
Because of this, especially during the summer, there’s often a build-up of cars (sharing the road with cyclists who want to tackle the pass as well). So our best tip is to go early in the morning to beat the traffic and experience this thrilling yet superbly stunning drive for yourself!
