After 1489 the troops of the Catholic Monarchs Almería recovered in the following years a primitive cathedral was almost completely destroyed after an earthquake in 1522 rose.

On this site, Bishop Fray Diego de Villalán gave a boost to the construction of a new cathedral, as a matter of strength. The design was carried out by Juan de Orea with a remarkable appearance of strength for the defense of Barbary attacks.

The Holy Apostolic Church Cathedral of the Incarnation, Renaissance style was completed in 1564, although in the course of centuries were added various elements, neoclassical style.
