The Al-Zaytuna Mosque is the oldest mosque in Tunis, being built either in the late 600s or early 700s CE, and covers around 5,000 square meters. The mosque includes 160 columns that were from the ancient city of Carthage. The mosque is also home to one of the oldest universities that studies the history of Islam.
