Madeira is a portuguese island located in the Atlantic. It's the main island from a archipelago with the same name, consisting of Madeira, Porto Santo, Desertas and Selvagens Islands. Madeira was discovered in 1419 by portuguese sailors and was quickly colonized because of its many resources. Due to it's lush and untouched nature, and subtropical climate, the exploration of Madeira in the XV century was highly beneficial to the portuguese, and the island is still today very important, along the years, cities like Funchal and Machico have grown and its many different habitats and landscapes have garnered more and more visitors making it one of the most visited places in the whole country.
