The Alma, Tavern & Theatre is a grand, traditional pub with the unique added attraction of its own intimate theatre. Situated in the heart of Clifton, The Alma is one of Bristol’s best known pubs and is popular with its locals as well as drawing regular crowds for food and theatre shows. The theatre is renowned for its eclectic mix of productions from local and national theatre groups, and specialises in the production of new writing.
Having changed hands in early August 2012 the Alma has undergone a refurbishment seeing huge improvements to the building that was well in need of a face lift. New decor, flooring, elegant toilets, expanded garden, kitchen, and theatre have enhanced the venue with a key factor being to keep the charm of the ’pub’ alive.
The front of house team is headed up by Rich Maxwell and Holly Newton who between them bring some 20 years experience and expertise in the restaurant and hospitality sector.
The ’behind the scenes’ team comprise of James and Zoe Dunn who have great experience in the local music and arts scene and were responsible for making the Golden Lion (Gloucester Road) one of Bristol’s key live music venues and art spaces.
We have a jazz pianist every Friday and Saturday evening from 7-9pm and Sunday lunch from 1-3pm. There will also be some live music on Sunday evenings in the rear of the pub as well as some one-off gigs in the theatre.
We also have art exhibitions running monthly in the rear of the pub, look out for event updates as to the latest shows and forthcoming gigs.
We hope you enjoy the Alma and look forward to seeing you soon.
