The North East Land, Sea and Air Museums (NELSAM), is an entirely volunteer-run transport museum situated on the site of the former RAF Usworth/Sunderland Airport, between Washington and Sunderland, England. The museum has the largest aviation collection between Yorkshire and Scotland and houses over 30 aircraft and a wide collection of aero engines, as well as the Military Vehicle Museum, formerly based in Newcastle upon Tyne, which holds a collection of WW2 and post war vehicles. The museum also has a collection of other items such as weaponry, military vehicles, trams & buses, and other historical exhibits. A collection of fire appliances was added to the collection and the North East Electric Transport Trust have been working on preparing their collection of trams ready to open this year. Special exhibitions cover the WW2 Blitz and 607 County of Durham Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force formed at RAF Usworth. For 2017, a new WW1 Display will be unveiled.
School and group visits can be arranged, please contact for further details.
NELSAM is a registered charity number 1150286
