A one-day trip to remember from Bucharest to Brașov

Bucharest, the capital of Romania, is a city worth visiting. The labyrinths of old streets and beautiful buildings offer a glimpse of Bucharest's past, while the booming nightlife and variety of clubs make sure that no night is left unenjoyed. In case you stay longer or just desire to expand the visiting beyond the city, these are some options for a one-day trip to remember, from Bucharest towards the city of Brașov.

Brașov is one of the major cities of Romania, bringing in tourists from all around the world. Since the buildings in the old part of the city were placed in the shape of a crown, Brașov received the name „Kronstadt” in the German language. This German word signifies the city of the crown. On the route from Bucharest to Brașov, there are a few places in the mountains that shouldn't be missed.

First option

The first one-day trip is the closest to Bucharest and leads one to Sinaia, 124 km away from the capital. Sinaia is a city admired not only for its Peles Castle but also for various ski slopes. Finished in the year 1914, and once a summer residence of the Romanian kings, today Peleș Castle is a national museum and should be a must-see on your itinerary. To get to Peles Castle, the tourists usually hike up the mountain trail filled with traditional craft shops.

While in Sinaia, don't miss the Sinaia Casino, which houses the Royal Art Gallery and the Sinaia Monastery. The monks at the Sinaia Monastery use a special piece of wood and two small hammers to create a calling for prayer in the afternoon. These sounds turn into a melody of sorts that travels throughout the city.

The Sinaia Express Train is a useful and quick way to visit the city center and main tourist attractions. The drive takes 25 minutes. Another way of getting the feeling of the city is by using the gondola. Sinaia's gondola is the most modern in Romania and offers a panoramic view of the city. More than that, it offers an access for the skiers who wish to enjoy one of the highest slopes in the area. Sinaia has 16 slopes in total, so gear up and enjoy.

There are several available trails for hiking enthusiasts in Sinaia. The trail towards Bolboci Lake is very sought after almost 25 km of hiking before reaching the winding mountain lake. A shorter hike, that is also suitable for children, starts at Peles Castle and leads to Poiana Stânii. It is called „The royal road” because the king of Romania Carol I used to horseback ride along it.

After a long day of sightseeing and skiing, there is nothing more relaxing than getting spoiled in one of the many spa resorts of the city and getting some traditional Romanian food in one of Sinaia's restaurants. This one day trip from Bucharest to Brașov is surely one to remember.
