The remarkable city of Uppsala is located just 71 km away from Stockholm, which makes it an ideal destination for a perfect daytrip during your Swedish vacations.

You can reach Uppsala easily by train and by bus, since there are multiple of them leaving every 30 to 60 min from Stockholm's main station. As soon you get at the city's central station, your explorations can begin.

Founded in 1477 by a bishop ,Uppsala University is the oldest university in Scandinavia. Here is where Carl Linnaeus, one of the most renowned scholars of Uppsala University, lived and studied for many years. His house and garden can still be visited nowadays. The castle with its three museums

The Uppsala castle was built in the 16th century, at the time when Sweden was becoming a great power in Europe. Inside the castle, three different museums can be visited and admired; all of them are definitely worth a visit during your stay. The first one is the Uppsala Art museum, the second is the Fredens Hus ( House of Peace) and the third is the Vasaborgen museum, which is basically a summer, open air museum.

The cathedral

The cathedral was built in the late 13th century and it has a height of 118.7 meters, which makes it the tallest church in the Nordic countries. Originally built under the Roman catholics and** by French **architects,** including Etienne de Bonneuil, the church was architecturally designed in a french gothic style. When you are in town, don’t miss out on visiting this masterpiece of human work. It is located between the Uppsala university's main building and the river Fyris, in the center **of the city.

Food and dining

You will find many options to satisfy your appetite, while you are visiting Uppsala. From the famous Station bar and restaurant at the central station, to one of my favorite konditori (pastry shop) in Sweden, known as "Landings Konditori", Swedish food and especially pastry, will not disappoint you. Regarding the last one, this place offers -since 1887- the most famous Princesstarta and the best Semla in town, while it's at the same time a perfect place to enjoy your Swedish fika.

Uppsala has a lot to offer to all the travelers out there; plan your trip and get inspired by itinari, as soon as possible!
