Trani is a charming seaport city, located in the north of Bari. The 50 000-inhabitant village has a lot to offer and is definitely worth a visit.

The picturesque town of Trani is part of the movement Cittàslow, which aims to maintain the unique values and cultural characteristics of the city, by avoiding standardisation through the establishment of big franchising companies. This individual and calming flair is immediately noticeable while walking through the scenic city center.

Trani Cathedral & castle

The most prominent building in the panorama is the famous Trani Cathedral (Cattedrale di San Nicola Pellegrino). The bright cathedral, which was built over 1000 years ago, is made out of the city's typical stone called pi*etra tranese.*

While standing in front of the cathedral, you can admire another impressive building located right in front of the sea: The Castle of Trani (Castello Svevo di Trani).

Villa communale, the nineteenth-century public gardens

Trani's local and most famous park (Villa Comunale) is the ideal place for soaking up the sun while taking a walk by the sea. While strolling through the park there are so many things to discover: fountains, statues, pavilions and even a big stone bed. At the end of the park there is a viewpoint where you will also be able to admire Trani’s magical port and promenade (bring your camera, it's a great opportunity for awesome sunny pictures!).

Even though the city seems like a "sleepy fishing village" during the afternoon, it gets surprisingly crowded in the evenings, especially on the weekends. A lot of people from the neighbouring villages come to Trani to have dinner or aperitivo and enjoy the city's vivid and modern atmosphere, full of bars and restaurants. In the summertime, there are often live concerts and great events, like the annual Festival of fireworks, followed usually by public winetasting.

The city's best cocktail bar

From Thursday to Sunday one of the best places to enjoy your sundowner cocktail is the bar Il Vecchio e il Mare. Located on a promontory overlooking the sea, front row seats are offered to the clients allowing them to watch the sunset while enjoying good music and of course tasty and refreshing drinks. If you fancy spending more time in there than just watching the sunset, keep in mind that the cocktail bar turns later on into a nightclub!
