This time it will not be a café nor a restaurant, but a place that has preserved Yugoslav culture, history and heritage. Today I am taking you to the place in Belgrade where you can definitely learn some of the Balkan’s top secrets. Museum of Tito, also known as the Kuca Cveca (House of Flowers) is the most famous and definitely the greatest mausoleum to the deceased president. In case you haven’t heard of this important political figure, check out the main things to know about Tito.

Belgrade people get excited about the small things. They love a warm, pleasant conversation, drinking morning coffee, or when they find a fresh bread in the bakery. They love to be in the movement and that is why Belgrade is always full of people. Moreover, Belgrade people are welcoming to new people. So meet Belgrade through its people, and on the way, you may find at some of the incredible monuments that will tell you more about them. One of those is definitely Kuca Cveca (House of Flowers), a great part of the Museum of Yugoslav History, opened in 1982. House of Flowers is a mausoleum, a huge garden, where Tito and his deceased spouse Jovanka are buried. This is an incredibly important and interesting monument to visit in the city not only because of its design, interior and myriad of flowers, but also because of the precious information about that specific era. Its amazing popularity is testified by the fact that it has been visited by 17 million people.

The Museum of Yugoslav History and the House of Flowers is open for visitors, and on 25 May, the day of Tito’s birth, the entrance is free. The museum includes a central part with flowers, two side parts and a huge terrace, with a view on Belgrade. In the museum you may find more than 60 personal belongings of Tito divided into five categories: “Man with a style”, “Meetings”,”Travels”, “Hedonism” and finally “Druze Tito mi ti se kunemo” (a former ode to Tito). All those objects will help you get a clearer idea about who he really was, not just as a president, but as a man, who always strived for hedonism. One thing that I find the most amazing about this memorial is that very eloquent and knowledgeable staff will be happy to answer to all of your questions, fulfill the experience with so many interesting anecdotes and stories that you will really be there in the moment.

It is undisputable that Tito has always been an intriguing historical figure, a memorable, humorous ruler who left a huge trademark on Yugoslav history. No matter what your opinion is of him or that time frame, I would warmly suggest you to visit the museum as the precious place full of valuable information. Who knows, you might even change your mind and have a completely different opinion.
